A Prolonged Mac Programming Tutorial

by Joe Burnett on September 20, 2010

For a long time I’ve been contemplating on starting a prolonged tutorial on programming Objective-C, assembler, etc. under Mac OS X. I am about 99% sure that I will be doing that in the future, and will be adding that as content to this site.

I truly enjoy writing code as a hobby. It will be very rewarding to share some aspects of that hobby with the outside world.

It’s Time to Take Action…

by Joe Burnett on January 26, 2010

My “blog voice” has been silent for way too long. I’ve been very busy with both work and personal issues and haven’t taken the time to keep this site updated. After such a long absence, I have decided that now it is time to return.

The biggest motivating factor for starting to blog again has to be the activities that have been taking place in Washington, D.C. over the course of the past year. Attempts by the Democrats and the “Far Left” to drastically change our way of life and take away our freedoms have been thwarted – for now.

I’m going to be posting my opinions about these nefarious characters, their on-going actions, and why these people anger me so much.

Perhaps no one will read my rants… That’s fine. At least I will have exercised my Constitutional rights while I still have them to voice my complaints.

The North Texas Ice Storm of ’09

by Joe Burnett on January 5, 2009

Freezing rain was forecast for last night and today here in Arlington, TX. I was skeptical that we would actually get such weather here today since it was 82 degrees on Saturday. The picture below tells the whole story and how I stand by the saying that, if you don’t like the weather in Texas, just wait 30 minutes.

The trees are covered in a thin layer of ice (for now) and seem to be holding up pretty well. Some of the shrubs are not as fortunate. Their branches are weeping downwards from the icy chill.

Even the potted cactus in our back yard didn’t escape the icicle formations.

I’m glad I have plenty of firewood, just in case the electricity goes off tonight.

Don’t Tick Off a Rocket Scientist

by Joe Burnett on April 23, 2008

There are a lot of funny emails that find their way into my in-box. While I have to question the authenticity of some of them sometimes, they are usually quite humorous nevertheless.

Here’s a great example that I thought was worth sharing. Apparently, Verizon somehow angered a rocket scientist and he decided to have a little fun with math. I’m sure that my niece Kassi could solve the equation on this check!

According to the source e-mail that this image came from, the amount is believed to be $533.82.

The lesson to be learned here: don’t tick off a rocket scientist!

Library of Congress Photo Archives on Flickr

by Joe Burnett on January 19, 2008

While catching up this morning on reading the posts at the KERA Arts + Culture Blog I discovered an entry describing how the Library of Congress has signed up for a Flickr account and is posting thousands of photos from its archives.

Most of the current photos that have been posted date from the 1910′s, 1930′s, and 1940′s. What I find the most interesting are the color photos from the World War II era. Here are some of the images I really enjoyed.

It’s impossible for me to pick a favorite among all of these wonderful photographs. I really love the one below. It makes me wonder… Who were they? Did he manage to survive the war? Did they marry and have kids? Are they still living? In a word – poignant.

The Hillary Nutcracker – as Seen on Jay Leno

by Joe Burnett on January 3, 2008

Michelle and I were watching Jay Leno tonight, enduring the three-month long writer strike that everyone is making such a big deal about. Surprisingly, Jay was pretty darn funny tonight without the writers providing him with material!

The funniest segment on the show was when he was demonstrating some of the novelty Christmas gifts and items that were available to purchase this holiday season. The funniest one of the segment had to be The Hillary Nutcracker! Here’s a picture of it!

The Hillary Nutcracker

The thing is only like $20 from Amazon.com so I’m going to get one! Maybe I’ll get one for my dad as a Christmas present next year since he collects nutcrackers.

Here’s a link to how to order a Hillary Nutcracker of your very own! LOL!

Don’t forget to check out The Hillary Clinton Voodoo Kit while you’re there! Oh, you can also pick up some In The Shell Nuts to go along with your nutcracker, too!

Teens and Cars

by Joe Burnett on December 23, 2007

Here’s a Fiat commercial that was emailed to me a while back. It’s so funny I just have to share it with you. To set the scene, a teenage boy has just come home after going on a date in his dad’s car.

Be warned – you might laugh out loud at the end!

Paul Potts Performs for the Queen

by Joe Burnett on December 20, 2007

More Paul Potts news! I really like this guy! I must have missed the news that his appearance in front of the queen at the Royal Variety Performance had already taken place.

What a success story he is. His debut album, One Chance, has already sold around 2 million copies worldwide, and it is one of my favorites.

Here is the video of his spectacular appearance at the 2007 Royal Variety Performance. If you haven’t purchased his album already, buy it! You won’t regret it!
