About Joe Burnett

I am a graduate of Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. In 1999 I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, minoring in English and Physics. I was a member of Epsilon Delta Pi (Computer Science Honor Society.)

I am an IBM Certified Professional in the areas of storage management and backup/recovery. My certifications include IBM Certified Storage Administrator and IBM Certified Deployment Professional with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.3.

As an advocate of Linux and other open source software initiatives, I co-founded the Permian Basin Linux Users Group after relocating back to Midland, Texas. The group serves as a resource for fellow enthusiasts of open source software in the area to meet each other. The group is very active on the Freenode IRC network in the channel #pblug.

My operating system platform of choice is Mac OS X. Based on the BSD Unix environment with a Mach microkernel and other open source utilities under the hood, it provides all of the Unix tools and capabilities a power-user requires. If all of the included features are not enough, many additional open source software ports may be installed using MacPorts.
Yes, I am a published author! I had the opportunity to apply my knowledge, technical expertise, and troubleshooting experience with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager when I co-authored the IBM Redbook Understanding the IBM TotalStorage Open Software Family in 2004. The publication may be read online or downloaded for free.
I have created a profile in the LinkedIn directory. Click on the button on the left if you wish to view my extended credentials. I highly recommend this resource to keep in touch with current and former colleagues.
Just in case anyone needs it, here is my Amazon Wishlist. Not that anyone needs to buy me anything… but there’s always Christmas and I do have a birthday every year!
