While catching up this morning on reading the posts at the KERA Arts + Culture Blog I discovered an entry describing how the Library of Congress has signed up for a Flickr account and is posting thousands of photos from its archives.
Most of the current photos that have been posted date from the 1910’s, 1930’s, and 1940’s. What I find the most interesting are the color photos from the World War II era. Here are some of the images I really enjoyed.

Grand Grocery Co., Lincoln, Neb., 1942

Street corner, Brockton, Mass., Jan. 1941
It’s impossible for me to pick a favorite among all of these wonderful photographs. I really love the one below. It makes me wonder… Who were they? Did he manage to survive the war? Did they marry and have kids? Are they still living? In a word – poignant.

Sailor and girl at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Washington, D.C., 1943 May

Michelle and I were watching Jay Leno tonight, enduring the three-month long writer strike that everyone is making such a big deal about. Surprisingly, Jay was pretty darn funny tonight without the writers providing him with material!
The funniest segment on the show was when he was demonstrating some of the novelty Christmas gifts and items that were available to purchase this holiday season. The funniest one of the segment had to be The Hillary Nutcracker
! Here’s a picture of it!

The thing is only like $20 from Amazon.com so I’m going to get one! Maybe I’ll get one for my dad as a Christmas present next year since he collects nutcrackers.
Here’s a link to how to order a Hillary Nutcracker
of your very own! LOL!
Don’t forget to check out The Hillary Clinton Voodoo Kit
while you’re there! Oh, you can also pick up some In The Shell Nuts
to go along with your nutcracker, too!

The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one.
