Paul Potts – Opera Singer

Posted by Joe Burnett on Thursday, June 21st, 2007 at 7:42 am

No, I’m not referring to the mass murderer Pol Pot. But wow… just…. wow! Michelle and I were watching some YouTube videos on the Apple TV to “test” the new functions and came across the amazing videos of the winner of the British TV show “Britain’s Got Talent”. He’s an amateur opera singer that just got his big break in life. It’s an amazing story – check him out for yourself.

Apple TV Now Plays YouTube Content

Posted by Joe Burnett on Thursday, June 21st, 2007 at 1:02 am

youtubetv.jpg recently released a software update for the that allows owners to view videos posted on YouTube. If you have an Apple TV, be sure and update your software via the Software Update function in order to take advantage of this new functionality.

Regardless of what some of the critics have said about the Apple TV, I have absolutely enjoyed mine. I’ve encoded most of my movies and TV episodes to in order to watch them on it, and I am very impressed with the image quality. I would recommend the Apple TV to anyone considering purchasing one.

Former Circuit City Employee Tells All

Posted by Joe Burnett on Tuesday, June 12th, 2007 at 7:55 am

I found an interesting article supposedly written by a former employee claiming there are shady sales tactics that go on at Circuit City. I have plenty of personal horror stories to tell about that “other” retail store, but this one is hard to believe. I have never had a bad experience when dealing with Circuit City. As most of my friends and family know, I usually encourage them to shop there!

One useful tip from the posting:

If you do get an extended warranty (Circuit City Advantage Protection Plan), push for a lower rate. Nearly half of the cost is profit, so if you’re buying a 2 year plan for you laptop that’s running you say 200 bones, you could easily talk them down to 170, possibly 150.

Now this one…. I’m not quite so sure about:

Every salesman is ranked by the number of protection plans (or extended warranties) that they sell. At my store all the time we would throw on scratch protection plans to CD’s, since they’re only a buck, most people don’t notice. During the $9.99 CD special days, customers who weren’t aware of the sale were easy prey.

Hmmm…. that last one sounds more like some other store to me.

Welcome to the New Site

Posted by Joe Burnett on Saturday, June 9th, 2007 at 3:23 pm

applause.gifHello! Thank you for visiting my personal website and blog. My primary hobby has been working with computers since I was around 9 or 10 years old. That’s when I was introduced to my first computer while at school – the Commodore Vic-20. Since then there’s been no looking back!

Although this is my personal website, my favorite hobby is intertwined with my career in the storage management profession so you’ll be seeing plenty of posts and content along those topics. Sure I’ll be posting items that other storage management professionals might not find interesting, but I’ll be adding plenty of posts and information about IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) that should keep you techies interested in coming back from time to time.
